Symbolism

It was 4:45 am, Mira woke up and got ready to work. After Mira was done taking a shower and brushing her teeth, she looked in the mirror. All she saw was her dull shadow in the mirror. She felt as she was lonely, not powerful, or confident enough. Mira worked in a town, where she didn't feel happy or didn't have the courage to feel happy. She was a simple girl who had no friends nor family to aid her in help.
Mira arrived at her work at 6 am and would begin to open up the shop. Mira worked every day. She would see the same people every day but not this time. As Mira went outside to turn the closed sign to open,  an old lady who sold lipsticks came up to her. She handed Mira a red lipstick. Mira shook her head and said: "I have no money to buy the lipstick." The old lady smiled at her faintly and left Mira standing outside the shop with the red lipstick.
It was the next day, same routine, same Mira. When Mira was done taking a shower and brushing her teeth, she looked in the mirror. Mira looked down and spotted the lipstick, she decided to try it on. She applied the bright red lipstick on her lips, and looked up in the mirror. Mira saw something different, something pleasing. The bright red color against her skin made her feel powerful and confident. Mira felt as she was looking at a new person. She decided to keep the lipstick on and went on with her day.
At work she did her same routine, opening up the shop and waiting for customers. As people began to come in, many complimented Mira on her lipstick. Many also compliment her on how beautiful it looked on her skin. It was the end of the day and Mira headed home she thought of the lipstick and the compliments. She thought of how one tube of lipstick can brighten up her day and can make her feel confident. One last time she looked at the lipstick before she went to sleep. She looked at the name and whispered: " I am bold."

The red lipstick symbolizes confidence, boldness, and empowerment. Mira never felt that she was confident or powerful when she would go on with her life. Though when she put on the red lipstick it showed a new person. The red lipstick represents boldness.

  1. I love this story! I think it great that you chose to write about a normal girl who was given confidence by someone being kind. This story is very empowering. Good job!
