Strengths and Challenges

My strengths as a writer would be describing a scene or adding vivid details to a scene. I try my hardest to describe a scene by adding details, that would make you feel that you are there. I try to add details where you can imagine what you see, think, smell, taste, touch, and much more. I believe I have developed this strength over time, and especially flourished in being better this year. An example of great details used would be in the papers I wrote this year: personal narrative, literary analysis, and the research paper. Such as, in my research paper, I added details about what Queen Hatshepsut would have worn and why, the details I added to the paper, could make you well aware of  how the Queen looked like.      The challenges that I have faced and still need to work on is my grammar. I have always had a problem with enhancing my word choices, comma splits and having a passive voice misuse. I try to work on these issues when I am writing. Some ways I try to improve is by

Hits and Misses

There were many hits and misses throughout this year. Throughout the year I have become a stronger writer and I have developed many skills in writing and in analyzing writings in books or poems. I believe that my personal narrative was a piece of writing that I was successful in. I enjoyed writing the personal narrative because the event that I wrote about changed the way I am, and made me more appreciative of my surroundings. I believe the successful part of my narrative was the details I included in there. The details in my paper were well described, such as, where I personified a tree dancing in the wind. The details in my paper was a significant part because it brought out the importance of nature to me.       Though my least favorite unit I struggled with was the poetry unit. I do like poetry, but I simply cannot write any exciting or meaningful poems in general. I found it stressful when were had to write each day for five minutes a poem on a subject that Dr. D gave us. #399 How has traveling affected you?

Traveling is something that my family has been doing for the longest time. Before my brother and I were born, my parents would travel the world and go to many places, and as we both were born we got to do the same. Every summer vacation we always go somewhere new, somewhere different. There has never been a summer vacation where we haven't traveled outside the country. Traveling is a worthwhile experience, which everyone should try.  My parents take us to many places because they want us to be cultivated in other people's cultures. They also take us traveling to learn how to respect one's culture. In a world where diversity is big, it should be considered to know and respect people's culture.      Now the big question, how has traveling affected me? Traveling has affected me in many ways, physically and mentally. It has affected me in an emotionally way, for an example, is when I went to India and saw the environment of a family. An environment, where there is a

Purple Hibiscus Reading Response

From the last reading response to this one, a lot has changed in Purple Hibiscus. New characters were revealed and dramatic scenes have happened. What I found interesting in the book so far, and would like to contrast is the difference between Amaka and kambili. Both girls are at the same age, though act very much different. Amaka is free-spoken and passionate about her beliefs. An example of this would be on page 169 to 170 when Aunty Ifeoma said: "Kambili, I want you to help me do the orah leaves, so I can start the soup when I come back," she said. "Orah leaves?" I asked, swallowing. "Yes. Don't you know how to prepare orah?" (...) "No Aunty." "Amaka will do it then," Aunty Ifeoma said. (...) "Why?" Amaka burst out. "Because rich people do not prepare orah in their house? Won't she participate in eating the orah soup?" This example shows the Amaka is intolerant of rich people and believes that Kambil
